Coherent pluggable optics are transforming network design. With hyperscalers leading and CSPs quickly following, IPoDWDM — or coherent routing — is reshaping how operators build and scale their optical networks.

In our largest-ever global survey of 240 communications service providers, the results are clear: the balance is shifting decisively toward IPoDWDM architectures.

Section 2 – Key Findings

• 59% of 400G+ pluggables will reside in IPoDWDM equipment by 2027.

• 43% plan to deploy 800G coherent pluggables within one year.

• 52% of operators are “extremely willing” to adopt proprietary optics for performance gains.

• 38% prefer optical controllers for pluggable management, while 35% favor hierarchical control.
